In these confusing times, we have to think of creative ways to get on with our exercise routines. The good news is that there are huge amounts of gym equipment that you can buy online that are just as effective as some devices in the gym! Moreover, they are also convenient to take with you when you go on holiday, for example.

Foam rollers
If you sit at home all that, you are bound to get stiff muscles - there is nothing that solves that better than foam rolling! Foam rolling is done using a foam roller, or a tube of Styrofoam used to massage the muscles and increase blood and oxygen flow to the muscle. They come in all shapes and sizes, including massage balls for training smaller muscle groups. Tennis or lacrosse balls also work well. Foam rollers are also great for after your workout to reduce pain. Stretch the muscle group after foam rolling for best results.

Strength training
Who says you can't have a good workout without dumbells? A suspension trainer and a set of elastic bands are good examples of gym equipment you can take anywhere. Moreover, these two are among the favourites of most trainers at FemmeGym.
Suspension trainer
A suspension trainer consists of a sturdy pair of straps attached to a wall, door frame or tree branch that will absolutely work your muscles with your own body weight. They are especially effective for core training. Examples of exercises include planks, chest-presses, row exercises ... and you can even do cardio exercises like squat jumps!

Elastic bands
Get ready for massive muscle pain! Elastics add a fun and unique twist to strength training because your muscles are not challenged by gravity in the same way as with dumbbells. Elastics with handles can be used for chest-presses, bicep-curs, rows, and you name it! Need heavier weight? Just combine different elastic bands and have fun!

Power bands
If you want to do heavier workouts like squats, deadlifts and, if you dare, pull-ups, you can use power bands. These elastic bands are so thick that they can support some of your body weight! They look in like giant rubber bands and can be attached to a tree, around a doorknob, or you can just stand on them (for deadlifts or squats).

Mini bands
These types of elastic bands are very popular for Pilates, Barre and other floor exercises. They are excellent for training your hip and gluteal muscles and, in some cases, even your shoulders. Examples of exercises are squat-walks or shoulder hand walks. Need more resistance? Combine bands!

Cooling down
Make sure you finish your training session with a full cool-down. This can be a series of stretching exercises. Finish by simply lying on your back on a towel or yoga mat with your eyes closed and relax for a few minutes. I encourage you to use this period when we are all at home to really take time for yourself. Wishing you all health and safety!
