#12: You know this one, no pain no gain?

No pain, no gain? Here's how to get rid of your muscle pain!

Completely sweaty, you walk out of the gym and cycle home with your last effort.
Tired, but proud, you plop down on the sofa: what a workout that was. But when the muscle soreness sets in a day or two later, you're probably a lot less happy. Everything hurts, and you can't even open the fridge without your arm muscles reminding you of those 5-kilo dumbbells from 2 days ago.

Fortunately, this will be a thing of the past from now on (or at least almost), because with these tips, you will have a lot less muscle pain next time.

Just briefly, why do we get muscle pain in the first place?
When you have been exercising intensively, small tears can form in your muscles. This way, space is made for more muscle tissue and your muscles can grow - which is what you will continue to feel for a few days after your workout. No pain, no gain! Totally fine, then, but ehm ... can we make that a little less painful?

1.Stretch!

Before exercising, it is smart to wake up (and warm up) your muscles. Stretch and stretch, in other words. Because if you start training without stretching your muscles properly first, unnecessary tears can occur - and in the worst case scenario, even an injury.

2. Drink plenty of water
Do not underestimate the importance of water, especially during your workout. Not only will you probably sweat a lot, but water also counteracts acidification in your muscles and it also helps to properly dispose of all the waste products in your body. Need more reasons? So fill up that water bottle!
